Supercapacitors, also known as ultracapacitors, are the high-capacity capacitors with the capacitance value that is higher than other capacitors with lower voltage limits, which bridges the gap between rechargeable batteries and electrolytic capacitors. These capacitors are typically stores 10 to 100 times more energy per unit volume or mass than the electrolytic capacitors that can accept and deliver charge in a faster way than cells and tolerates more charge and discharge cycles than traditional rechargeable batteries. 

These supercapacitors are varied from the standard capacitor in two ways which are the plates of a supercapacitor having a larger surface area and the distance between them that is much smaller when compared to the conventional capacitors. This differentiation between these plates plays in a different way than the traditional dielectric where a supercapacitor works like an ordinary capacitor but can store energy which is hugely more abundant in amounts.

These supercapacitors are used for storing energy and undergoing frequent charge and discharge cycles at a higher and shorter durations. Therefore, these supercapacitors are a holistic combination of the properties of traditional batteries and capacitors. They are also used for regenerative braking, burst-mode power delivery or short-term energy storage within the cranes, buses, trains, elevators, cars, and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV). And the smaller units of these supercapacitors are employed as memory backup for the static random-access memory (SRAM)and in the applications that are in solar power, battery backup, batteries, and flash-lights.
