Global Supercapacitors Market Size (2023 To 2028)

The global supercapacitors market size is expected to be worth USD 2.50 Billion in 2023. It is expected to grow at a CAGR of 15.24% during the forecast period and reach a value of USD 5.08 Billion by 2028.

Supercapacitors, also known as ultra-capacitors, are high-capacity capacitors with a capacitance value that is higher than other capacitors with lower voltage limits, which bridges the gap between rechargeable batteries and electrolytic capacitors. These capacitors typically store 10 to 100 times more energy per unit volume or mass than electrolytic capacitors can accept and deliver charge in a faster way than cells and tolerate more charge and discharge cycles than traditional rechargeable batteries.  These supercapacitors vary from the standard capacitor in two ways: the plates of a supercapacitor have a larger surface area, and the distance between them is much smaller when compared to the conventional capacitors. This differentiation between these plates plays in a different way than the traditional dielectric, where a supercapacitor works like an ordinary capacitor but can store energy which is hugely more abundant in amounts.

Supercapacitors are used for storing energy and undergoing frequent charge and discharge cycles at higher and shorter durations. Therefore, these supercapacitors are a holistic combination of the properties of traditional batteries and capacitors. They are also used for regenerative braking, burst-mode power delivery, or short-term energy storage within cranes, buses, trains, elevators, cars, and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV). The smaller units of these supercapacitors are employed as memory backup for the static random-access memory (SRAM) and in applications that are in solar power, battery backup, batteries, and flashlights.

MARKET DRIVERS:

Rising improvements in storage technology with the help of emerging market segments like smart grids, hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), and renewable energy systems are driving the growth of the target market.

Growing demand for renewable energy solutions is driving the global supercapacitors market. Also, the significant factors that are boosting the growth of the target market are the developments in storage technology along with emerging sectors like hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), smart grids, and renewable energy systems. Also, the capability of supercapacitors to offer emergency shutdown or backup to low-power equipment such as RAM, SRAM, micro-controllers, and PC Cards drive this business demand. Moreover, these devices are more agile than conventional batteries, coupled with rising demand for stabilized power supply in various applications with fluctuating loads, such as laptop computers, GPS, hand-held devices, and portable media players, are the other factors that are contributing to the market size growth.

Also, the increasing production of supercapacitor-based vehicles because of the concerns regarding the environment, climate change, and greenhouse gases, which have proven to be global menaces that affect crop cycles, weather systems, and entire ecosystems are bolstering the global supercapacitors market.

MARKET RESTRAINTS:

However, the higher costs that are associated with the products are the major restraining factor for the global supercapacitors market growth.
