Recent Developments:

  • Recently a journal was published by society of chemical industry on Poly ethylene oxide based block copolymer electrolytes for Li- Ion batteries. Nanostructured block copolymer electrolytes (BCEs) based on poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) are being used for solid‐state electrolytes in high energy density lithium metal batteries (LMBs). The electrolyte provides high mechanical strength & ionic conductivity because of self assembly properties of the electrolyte.
  • Robert Frederick Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Cornell University, conducted a research study on improving Vanadium redox flow battery performance. It was found that when on direct addition of sulphur and nitrogen functional groups on graphite felt electrode can improve the performance of vanadium batteries.
  • Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, has discovered a bi – porous graphite felt electrode with enhanced surface area & catalytic activity for vanadium redox batteries. The bi – porous graphite felt electrode exhibits high electrolyte performance & electrochemical performances.
  • A recent study was conducted on improving the performance of Photo –Bioelectrochemical Fuel cell using grapheme oxide, Cobalt, & polypyrrole composite modified photo – bicathode in the presence of antibiotics. The electrode is prepared by electropolymeriztion technique. The composite algal bacteria photo – bicathode performance is enhanced by GO/Co/PPy. [1]

Battery Electrolyte market value & expected Growth:

The Global Battery Electrolyte market was $4.26 Billion in 2020. It is expected to be around $6.35 Billion in 2025 with a current CAGR of 8.32 %. The Global Battery Electrolyte market is expected to witness moderate growth in the forecast period (2020 – 2025). Global is expected to witness the largest growth among all the regions.

Battery Electrolyte market Drivers & Restraints:

The increase in global carbon emission has asked another type of vehicle which do not use exhaustible renewable resources such as petroleum-derived products as fuels. Therefore, Electric Vehicles (EVs) driven by high-performance electric batteries are being manufactured thereby, demanding growth of the battery electrolyte market. The stringent environmental policies have also boomed the market's growth.

The exhaustibility of non – renewable energy sources has demanded the use of alternative methods of energy generation such as high-performance electrical batteries such as Li-ion batteries.

Lack of awareness among the people in many regions such as Latin America, the Middle East & Africa & lack of implementation of environmental policies has been an inhibiting factor for the growth of the market.

Battery Electrolyte market Segmentation:

  • By Battery Type (Lead – Acid, Lithium –Ion)
  • By State of Liquid (Liquid electrolyte, Gel electrolyte)
  • By Region (North America, Latin America, Europe, Global, Middle East & Africa)

By geography the market is segmented into Latin America, Global, Europe, North America, and Middle East and Africa. Among them Global is expected to witness the fastest growth due to large number of key manufacturers in the region. From a recent report it was found that Global accounted for the largest share of battery electrolyte market in 2020.
