An excipient is a pharmacologically inactive element which is added along with the API in a particular formulation. It is added so as to provide stability, increase the absorption of the drug and to better other pharmacokinetic properties. There are many excipients available in the market like gelatin, complex sugars and various polymers. Sugar based excipients are the most common of all, and are widely used in parenteral medicines. These excipients try to mask the bitterness of the pharmaceutical drug.
