Soy Isoflavones Market Overview:

Isoflavones are phytoestrogens and have a similar chemical structure to the hormone estrogen. Isoflavones can have estrogen-like or anti-estrogen effects and are considered SERMs (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators). Soy isoflavones are a rich source of estrogen and vitamin E and have properties as suppressants and antioxidants of breast cancer cells. They are extracted from the seed, leaves, bark, and husk of the soy plant, and the end products of soy isoflavones are available in powder, oil, or wax form. The growing awareness of the consumption of soy isoflavones in the diet and its benefits as the prevention and cure of heart disease, asthma, diabetes and multiple cancers are the main factors driving demand for soy isoflavones worldwide.

Recent Developments

Archer Daniels Midland Company acquired Global Soy Isoflavone from The Solae Company, which includes a broad portfolio of U.S. patents, numerous foreign equivalents and pending applications. As part of the acquisition, Solae will discontinue the activity of soy isoflavones. ADM now provides Novasoy (R) soy isoflavones to the existing Solae customers to offer a transition.

Soy Isoflavones Market Drivers and Restraints:

The global soy isoflavones market has witnessed tremendous growth because of the wider applications in food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, etc. Growing consumer awareness of the health benefits associated with soy isoflavones, such as the prevention of heart disease, asthma, diabetes, and others, is further influencing this market. In addition to this, the growing trend of plant-based diets due to their benefits, such as weight control, hypoglycemia, cholesterol and abdominal fat, is expected to drive the growth of the market for soy isoflavones in the years to come. Consuming soy isoflavones in foods and dietary supplements also reduces the risk of breast cancer and cancer cell growth by reducing the process of cell mitosis, increasing the industry demand for soy isoflavones in foods and beverages and has become the driving force behind the global soy isoflavones market. The growing demand for soy isoflavones from the cosmetic industry to treat skin tightening, and wrinkles, protect against sun damage and hydrate the skin, also boosting the global market for soy isoflavones.

However, excessive consumption of soy isoflavones produces side effects such as food allergies, migraines, and thyroid disorders and can hamper the use of soy isoflavones and restrict the global market. Also, climate changes can hamper the cultivation of soy plants, which could further affect the growth of the soy isoflavones market. Besides, with the constant growth of the food industry, market players have opportunities to invest in this market.
